Minnesota teenager catches near-record largemouth bass

Luke Mulholland, a 14-year-old from Zumbrota, caught a nearly record-breaking largemouth bass while fishing from a public pond in Rochester, Minnesota, on October 3. The fish weighed 8 pounds, 10 ounces and measured 23.5 inches in length.

This catch came within five ounces of the Minnesota state record, which stands at 8 pounds, 15 ounces. Notably, the catch occurred exactly 21 years to the day after the current state record was set at Auburn Lake on October 3, 2005. While the length matched the state record, Mulholland’s fish had a larger girth of 18.5 inches.
