Minnesota Timberwolves keep Donte DiVincenzo after LaMelo Ball trade

The Minnesota Timberwolves announced they will not trade guard Donte DiVincenzo despite an active offseason and the recent acquisition of point guard LaMelo Ball from the Charlotte Hornets. DiVincenzo is recovering from a ruptured right Achilles tendon suffered in the previous playoffs and is expected to miss a significant portion of the 2026‑27 season.

The team values DiVincenzo for his defensive role and three‑point shooting, viewing him as a key piece in their defensive identity and as a potential asset whose market value could rise if he returns to form. He averaged 12.2 points and 1.3 steals per game during the regular season, appeared in all 82 games, and contributed 10.8 points in the playoffs. DiVincenzo said the organization’s support motivates his recovery.

Minnesota’s offseason moves included trading for LaMelo Ball, sending Naz Reid, an unprotected 2033 first‑round pick, three first‑round pick swaps and three second‑round picks to Charlotte, and moving power forward Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets as a cost‑cutting measure. The Timberwolves remain focused on adding a power forward and additional shooting before the start of the 2026‑27 season.
