According to The Athletic, Timberwolves president of basketball operations Tim Connelly is exploring the possibility, seeing Irving’s scoring and play‑making as a missing piece for the team built around Anthony Edwards. Irving, who missed the entire 2025‑26 season, is expected to be unavailable for more than a year and a half.

The Timberwolves have also been linked to Memphis guard Ja Morant, though both players’ injury histories raise concerns about long‑term value.
