Minnesota Timberwolves to retire Kevin Garnett’s number 21
The Minnesota Timberwolves will retire Kevin Garnett’s jersey number 21 on February 28 during a game against the Boston Celtics at the Target Center. This ceremony marks a significant reconciliation between the former player and the franchise following years of strained relations under previous ownership.
Garnett played 14 seasons with the Timberwolves across two stints, from 1995 to 2007 and again from 2015 to 2016. During his tenure in Minnesota, he was a 10-time NBA All-Star and won the NBA Most Valuable Player award in the 2003-04 season. He holds numerous franchise records, including total points, rebounds, assists, and blocks.
The Boston Celtics previously retired Garnett’s number 5 in 2022 to honor his contributions during his six seasons in Boston, which included an NBA championship in 2008. Garnett, a 2020 Naismith Hall of Fame inductee, has recently taken on a role as an ambassador for the Timberwolves under the new ownership of Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez.
