Minnesota Twins fire pitching coaches and assistant athletic trainer

The Minnesota Twins have announced the departure of pitching coach Pete Maki and assistant pitching coach Luis Ramirez. The organization also confirmed that assistant athletic trainer Jason Kirkman will not return next season.

Maki had been with the Twins since 2018, serving in various roles including minor league pitching coordinator and bullpen coach before becoming the pitching coach in July 2022. Ramirez had been with the club since 2006, serving as assistant pitching coach for the last five years. Kirkman’s departure follows seven seasons with the team.

The staff changes follow a season in which the Twins finished with a 77-85 record, missing the playoffs. The team posted a 4.56 total ERA, which was the sixth-worst in Major League Baseball. Despite the high ERA, the pitching staff ranked in the top half of the league in strikeouts and saves.
