Byron Buxton placed on 10-day IL, will miss All-Star Game

Minnesota Twins center fielder Byron Buxton was placed on the 10‑day injured list with a right hip strain that forced him out of the upcoming All‑Star Game in Philadelphia. The 32‑year‑old aggravated the injury while attempting to steal second base in the first inning of a game against the New York Yankees, after returning from a brief stint on the IL earlier in the season.

Buxton, a voted American League starter, is batting .271 with a .904 OPS, 25 home runs and 45 RBIs in 75 games. The Twins recalled outfielder Alan Roden from Triple‑A St. Paul to fill his roster spot. Twins manager Derek Shelton said the move was the best option given the schedule and Buxton’s condition.

The injury ends Buxton’s first All‑Star start and sidelines him through the All‑Star break.
