Minnesota Twins playoff odds drop after Phillies sweep

The Minnesota Twins face a critical juncture in their postseason pursuit following a series sweep by the Philadelphia Phillies. After losing 7-1 at the Field of Dreams and subsequently dropping all games of the series at Target Field, the Twins' playoff odds have fallen to 19% according to FanGraphs. Specifically, their chances of winning the AL Central sit at 10.9%, while their Wild Card odds have dropped to 8.1%.

During the series finale, the Twins surrendered a five-run lead, ultimately losing 7-5. Despite the recent slump, which includes losing six of their last ten games, player Byron Buxton noted that the clubhouse remains resilient and is not pouting. However, manager Derek Shelton expressed frustration following the losses.

The Twins now face a demanding schedule to remain relevant in the American League race. Upcoming matchups include a series against the Atlanta Braves followed by a road trip to face the San Diego Padres. Success in these games will be vital to avoid falling too far behind in the standings before they face the Athletics later in August.
