Minnesota Twins promote Aaron Sabato to major leagues

The Minnesota Twins have selected the contract of first baseman Aaron Sabato for the final week of the MLB season, marking his major league debut. Sabato, a former first-round pick from the 2020 MLB Draft out of the University of North Carolina, has spent the season with the Twins’ Triple-A affiliate, the St. Paul Saints.

During his time in Triple-A, Sabato has recorded a .273/.349/.528 batting line with 25 home runs and 29 doubles. To make room for Sabato on the 40-man roster, the Twins are moving Byron Buxton to the 60-day injured list following surgery to address a hip injury.

Sabato’s promotion comes after several years in the minor leagues where his progress was occasionally hindered by strikeout concerns. He is expected to be in uniform for the team’s upcoming game in San Francisco.
