Minnesota upsets Washington 27-24 in conference opener

The Minnesota Golden Gophers defeated the Washington Huskies 27-24 in their Big Ten conference opener at Husky Stadium. The loss marks Washington’s first home defeat against an unranked opponent since 2021.

Washington struggled offensively, managing only 40 rushing yards on 27 carries, partly due to injuries to four running backs. Quarterback Demond Williams Jr. completed 18-of-28 passes for 239 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, while also recording seven sacks.

Defensively, the Huskies saw an uncharacteristic performance from Jacob Manu, who recorded only two tackles during the game. Defensive coordinator Ryan Walters noted that while Manu was physical in the run game, his statistical output was significantly lower than his career averages.
