Peggy Flanagan secures high‑profile endorsement in crowded Minnesota Senate race

Minnesota’s U.S. Senate primary, set for Aug. 11, has become one of the most expensive in state history, with millions of dollars poured in by super‑PACs and dark‑money groups. With just 18 days until the primary, more than a dozen candidates remain on both party tickets. On the Democratic side, Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan and Rep. Angie Craig are locked in a tight race, each polling around 40 % in the latest SurveyUSA poll, while the remaining Democratic contenders split the remaining 20 %.

Flanagan has already earned the Democratic‑Farmer‑Labor Party’s endorsement and, this week, received a high‑profile endorsement from U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who praised Flanagan’s willingness to “stand up for what’s right” and fight corporate influence. Warren’s endorsement was aired on KFGO’s News and Views program.

On the Republican side, former sports broadcaster Michele Tafoya leads the field, with a poll showing her at 41 % against nine other GOP candidates, including former NBA player Royce White and Navy SEAL Adam Schwarze, who holds the state party’s endorsement.

The race is seen as a bellwether for control of the U.S. Senate, with the Cook Political Report rating it as likely Democratic. No Republican has won a Minnesota Senate seat since 2002.
