Minnesota Vikings keep quarterback battle open between J.J. McCarthy and Kyler Murray
Head coach Kevin O’Connell said the Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback competition remains a "transparent competition" with no clear starter yet. Both J.J. McCarthy, the 2024 first‑round pick who missed his rookie season with a meniscus injury, and former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, signed after his release, are slated to compete throughout training camp. O’Connell emphasized that the dialogue in the quarterback room has been "very professional" and that the team is "happy with the way both of those guys have attacked it". He added that the focus is on daily habits, footwork and protection calls rather than who says what. The Vikings have not indicated an edge for either player, and the decision will be based on performance in upcoming practices and OTA sessions.
