Minnesota Wild deny Quinn Hughes trade rumors, focus on contract extension

The Minnesota Wild have emphatically denied rumors that they are considering trading star defenseman Quinn Hughes. Despite speculation linking him to the New Jersey Devils, league sources have dismissed these reports as “made up” and “invented BS by bloggers.”

Instead, the Wild are focused on negotiating a long-term contract extension with Hughes and his agent, Pat Brisson. While the organization remains confident in reaching an agreement before the season begins, reports suggest that negotiations have been “very quiet” recently.

Discussions are reportedly centered on the length of the deal and its annual value. While the Wild may prefer a maximum eight-year term, Hughes is thought to prefer a shorter commitment, potentially between three and five years. Given the rising NHL salary cap, experts suggest a new deal for the Norris Trophy winner could range between $18.5 million and $20 million annually.
