Minnesota Wild face roster shifts as Matt Dumba retires and Quinn Hughes negotiations continue
Former Minnesota Wild defenseman Matt Dumba has officially announced his retirement from the NHL at age 32. Over a 13-year career spanning 748 games, the Saskatchewan native recorded 79 goals and 157 assists during his tenure with Minnesota. Dumba was a recipient of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 2020, recognized for his leadership and humanitarian contributions.
Separately, the Minnesota Wild are navigating ongoing contract negotiations with defenseman Quinn Hughes. Hughes, who was acquired from the Vancouver Canucks in a major trade last December, is entering the final year of his current six-year, $47.1 million contract. While General Manager Bill Guerin had hoped for an extension earlier this summer, reports indicate that Hughes is in no rush to reach a decision, a process that could potentially take months.
