Minnesota Wild manage Quinn Hughes negotiations and player injuries
The Minnesota Wild are facing roster challenges as they prepare for the 2026-27 season. General Manager Bill Guerin addressed ongoing contract negotiations with Quinn Hughes, noting that the team is allowing the player time to make a decision. Guerin emphasized that Hughes is a core part of the team and that the organization wants him in Minnesota for a long time, but acknowledges that such major decisions require careful thought.
In addition to contract discussions, the Wild have placed key players Brock Faber and Filip Gustavsson on injured reserve. Faber is currently in concussion protocol after being struck by a puck during a preseason game and is expected to miss the season opener. Gustavsson is recovering from offseason hip surgery and is not anticipated to return until November. His absence will see Calvin Pickard serve as the backup to Jesper Wallstedt.
