Minotaure selected to represent France at the Oscars

The film ‘Minotaure’, directed by dissident filmmaker Andrei Zviagintsev, has been selected to represent France in the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars. The decision was made by a professional jury chaired by film historian Charles Tesson following an independent process supervised by the Academy.

A winner of the Grand Prix at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, the production is a collaboration between French companies MK Productions and CG Cinéma, with participation from Germany and Latvia.

Loosely adapted from Claude Chabrol’s 1969 film ‘La Femme infidèle’, the drama is set against the backdrop of the Russian mobilization following the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The story follows Gleb, an entrepreneur struggling with the collapse of his marriage while navigating the pressures of meeting military recruitment quotas to protect his status and avoid the mobilization of Muscovites.
