Minsur targets 2028 for Justa Subterránea copper operations

Minsur plans to begin operations at its Justa Subterránea project in 2028. Located in Marcona, Ica region, the project aims to expand copper exploitation by accessing primary sulfide deposits situated beneath the current open-pit Mina Justa operation.

Rather than a greenfield development, the initiative serves as a vertical extension of existing infrastructure. This approach is intended to optimize operational learning and reduce execution risks by utilizing established facilities. The project is estimated to require an investment of approximately US$ 500 million.

The timing of the project aligns with projections of a global structural copper supply deficit expected toward the end of the decade. By expanding its capacity, Minsur seeks to diversify its portfolio beyond its historical focus on tin and strengthen its position in the copper market, driven by global demand from electrification and new technologies.
