Mintia gas power plant delivers first MWh to Romanian grid
The Mintia Combined Cycle Gas Power Plant has successfully delivered its first megawatt-hour to the Romanian National Energy System. Following the synchronization of Gas Turbine 1 (TG1) with the grid, the facility has entered a testing phase. Once fully operational, the plant is expected to reach an installed capacity of approximately 1,700 MW, making it one of the largest gas-fired plants in Europe.
The project, a private investment exceeding 1.2 billion euros by Mass Global Energy Rom, is being developed on the site of a former coal-fired plant. While the successful synchronization marks a major milestone, officials note that further technical adjustments and testing for a second turbine are planned through late 2026.
In related energy developments, the Romanian Competition Council is reviewing proposed commitments from Premier Energy regarding its takeover of Distribuție Energie Oltenia (DEO). These measures aim to prevent the integration of distribution and supply services from reducing market competition. Additionally, the Federation of Energy Utility Companies (ACUE) has called for increased pre-financing for energy suppliers to ensure liquidity and market stability during the upcoming cold season.
