Miodrag Linta commemorates Krajina uprising and Garavice genocide of Serbs

Miodrag Linta, president of the Union of Serbs from the region, said the Krajina Serbs rose in an uprising 85 years ago to ensure their survival against the genocidal policies of the Ustaše regime. He stressed that the rebellion briefly liberated an area of about 3,000 km² including towns such as Donji Lapac, Srb, Drvar and Grahovo, and that it was initially organised by local Serbs before the Yugoslav Communist Party took leadership.

Linta also highlighted the 1941 mass killings in Garavice near Bihać, describing it as part of a systematic Ustaše plan to eradicate the Serbian population. He cited British estimates that more than 12,000 Serbs, along with thousands of Jews and Roma, were murdered between June and early September 1941, with the most intense violence occurring from 27 July to 5 August. He mentioned the destruction of the Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity and the subsequent use of its materials for a Catholic church, as well as the establishment of multiple mass‑grave sites in the Bihać region.
