Mion Organization launches human rights training for prison officials in Aden
The Mion Organization for Human Rights has launched a three-day training program in Aden to enhance the capacity of judicial officers and prison staff. Conducted in cooperation with the Correction and Rehabilitation Authority and supported by the German Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the course aims to improve knowledge of human rights and the rights of detainees.
The training targets prison officials from the Aden, Lahj, and Abyan governorates. It focuses on professional duties, international conventions, and human rights-based approaches to minimize violations and improve the treatment of inmates. The program also includes sessions dedicated to the rights of female prisoners.
Major General Dr. Abdel Salam Ali Saleh, head of the Correction and Rehabilitation Authority, noted that the initiative seeks to upgrade central prisons' ability to rehabilitate inmates and reduce individual violations. He also highlighted challenges such as insufficient monthly funding for prisoner food and the need for better healthcare and timely legal processing.
