Miquita Oliver and Fearne Cotton reconcile after decades of tension

TV presenters Miquita Oliver and Fearne Cotton have addressed their long-standing professional and personal friction during a conversation on Cotton’s podcast, ‘My Happy Place’. The two women, who rose to fame as teenagers in the early 2000s, discussed the insecurities and media pressures that fueled their past conflict.

Oliver admitted she had previously made disparaging comments about Cotton, including branding her a ‘she-devil’ in a 2005 interview. She explained that her hostility stemmed from deep-seated intimidation and personal insecurities. Oliver noted that she viewed Cotton as the ideal TV presenter, describing her as ‘very beautiful, with blonde hair, and very slim,’ while she felt ‘very Black and overweight.’

Oliver also reflected on the ‘vile’ nature of the early noughties press, stating she was subjected to a ‘veil of racism’ that compounded her feelings of inadequacy. The pair used the podcast appearance to reflect on their shared experiences navigating sudden fame and to move past their historical fallout.
