Mira and Salcedo celebrate cantonization anniversaries

The cantons of Mira and Salcedo are holding extensive celebrations to mark their respective anniversaries of cantonization.

Mira celebrated 46 years of cantonization with a series of civic, religious, and institutional events. The festivities included a solemn session attended by Mayor Fausto Ruiz and Carchi Prefect Julio Robles, where recognitions were awarded to individuals and organizations contributing to local development. The program featured a military and police parade, a thanksgiving mass, and a large nocturnal celebration that drew over 7,000 people for artistic shows and traditional activities. During the official session, agreements regarding infrastructure and free transportation were announced.

Salcedo is observing its 107th anniversary of cantonization with a diverse program running from August 18 to September 26. Organized by the Committee of Intercultural, Cultural, Social, and Patrimonial Events, the agenda aims to promote cultural tourism and strengthen local identity. Activities include automobile exhibitions, sports competitions, religious tributes, and intercultural parades designed to showcase the region's traditions and productive vocation.
