Mira municipality secures €350,000 for coastal protection under Portugal's Territórios Resilientes program

The municipality of Mira in Portugal confirmed a €350,000 investment to reinforce its coastal defence, part of the national “Territórios Resilientes” initiative with a total budget of €77 million for climate‑adaptation projects. The contract was signed on 8 June at Praia de Mira in the presence of Environment and Energy Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho, the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) and the Central Hydrographic Region administration.

The funding will be used to strengthen the dune cordon south of the Poço da Cruz beach, repairing damage from recent severe storms and aiming to reduce erosion, protect local populations and infrastructure, and preserve dune ecosystems as part of a broader strategy to increase resilience to extreme weather events.

A later correction clarified that the allocated amount is €350,000, not the previously reported €1 million, and the municipality apologised for the earlier error.
