Mirabelles de Lorraine harvest begins despite climate challenges
The Mirabelles de Lorraine harvest has commenced, marking the 30th anniversary of the IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) status. Despite an exceptionally early flowering period in March, heatwaves delayed the maturation process and fruit coloration, leading to a harvest start on July 29.
While the quality of the fruit remains high with good sugar levels, the industry expects a slight reduction in total volume compared to the initial 6,000-tonne forecast due to drought and smaller fruit sizes. The seasonal availability typically lasts from mid-August to the end of September, offering a short window for consumers to enjoy the fruit in various culinary applications.
