Roller Coaster Day celebrated by major Italian theme parks

August 16 marks Roller Coaster Day, an international celebration of roller coasters. The date commemorates the 1898 patent of the first modern structure by LaMarcus Adna Thompson in the United States.

In Italy, major theme parks are highlighting the occasion. Gardaland reported a milestone for its Dragon Rush attraction, which has carried 5 million passengers and traveled over 266,000 kilometers since its 2016 debut. Alessandra Zanoni, Park Operations Director at Gardaland Resort, described the appeal of coasters as a ‘safe thrill’ that provides intense emotions within a controlled environment.

Mirabilandia, Italy’s largest theme park, is also celebrating the day by showcasing its extensive coaster network, which spans approximately 5 kilometers of track. Notable attractions include iSpeed, a magnetic launch coaster, and the iconic Katun.
