Mirador Sur Park officially renamed in honor of Joaquín Balaguer

The Mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejía, officially unveiled a plaque designating the Mirador Sur Park as ‘Parque Mirador Sur Dr. Joaquín Balaguer’ in Santo Domingo. This action fulfills a 2019 resolution by the Council of Councilors that had remained pending for seven years.

The renaming honors the late former president Joaquín Balaguer, who was a primary promoter and architect of the park, which was originally inaugurated in 1970. During the ceremony, Mejía stated that the best way to honor a man who dedicated himself to the country is by preserving his legacy and works.

Political figures, including Senator Ramón Rogelio Genao of the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC), attended the event to express support for the decision, noting that the park was a project conceived and built by Balaguer.
