Mirae Asset forecasts AI investment shift toward semiconductor components and equipment
Mirae Asset Global Investments predicts that the artificial intelligence investment boom will expand beyond memory semiconductors into the materials, parts, and equipment (소부장) sectors. During an online seminar, the firm noted that as AI server performance increases, demand for Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitors (MLCC), substrates, and front-end equipment is expected to rise significantly.
Industry experts highlighted that the number of MLCCs required in high-performance AI server racks can reach over 440,000 units, compared to much lower amounts in standard servers. This surge in demand is reflected in pricing; for instance, Samsung Electro-Mechanics reportedly increased MLCC prices by over 30% in August following a previous hike in June.
To capitalize on this trend, Mirae Asset highlighted its ‘TIGER AI Semiconductor Core Process ETF’, which focuses on the domestic supply chain rather than just large-cap memory makers. As of August 19, the ETF’s top holdings include Samsung Electro-Mechanics (23.96%), LG Innotek (17.03%), Isu Petasys (16.75%), Wonik IPS (10.68%), and Daeduck Electronics (10.45%). Combined, the weight of companies related to substrates and MLCCs in the fund reaches approximately 71.41%.
