Miramare Castle parking reopens after EU‑funded upgrades

On 31 July 2026 the main parking area serving the Miramare Castle Museum and Park in Trieste reopened following extensive resurfacing and the installation of new horizontal road markings. The works, which began in December 2025, also upgraded underground water, electricity, gas and data networks and were financed through Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

The parking had been closed to private vehicles from 27 April 2025 until the end of June 2026, with access limited to tourist buses, emergency vehicles and visitors with disabilities. Authorities advise drivers to use alternative on‑street spaces along Regional Road 14, the nearby Grignano lot, or public transport – city bus lines 6 and 36, the “Delfino Verde” ferry, and the historic Miramare train station.

Miramare Castle, a white‑marble palace perched on a rocky promontory above the Gulf of Trieste, was commissioned in 1855 by Archduke Maximilian of Austria and designed by Viennese architect Carl Junker. Completed in 1860, the historic site remains one of Friuli‑Venezia Giulia’s most visited cultural attractions.
