Mircea Sandu proposes Ciprian Marica for FRF presidency

Former Romanian Football Federation (FRF) president Mircea Sandu has proposed Ciprian Marica as a potential successor to the current president, Răzvan Burleanu. Sandu cited Marica’s experience as a former national team player and his business acumen as key qualifications for leading the federation.

Ciprian Marica, currently an owner at Farul Constanța, responded to the nomination by stating he is not currently seeking the presidency. However, he expressed strong opposition to the current leadership, describing the existing system as “defective” and lacking results. Marica warned that Romanian football is in its “worst position ever” and lacks a viable future under the current management, which has seen little change since Burleanu took office in 2014.

The calls for leadership change follow a period of poor performance by the Romanian national team, including significant losses in the Nations League. While Marica noted that bringing in figures like Gheorghe Hagi was a positive step, he argued that a complete systemic overhaul would require years of dedicated work that the current leadership seems unwilling to undertake.
