Mirebalais Mayor Lochard Laguerre Approves Gang Peace Deal

Mayor Lochard Laguerre of Mirebalais announced a peace agreement with the leader of the Canaan gang, aiming to withdraw armed groups from the city. The mayor dissolved the local self‑defence group "Back up Ferrailles" and began confiscating weapons, seizing three firearms on the first day of implementation.

The agreement follows weeks of pressure from civil‑society leaders who presented the gang’s demands to the municipal authorities. Laguerre said the city had endured 17 months of instability, with 80 % of residents displaced after the town’s fall, and that the deal offers a chance to restore order without cohabiting with the gang.
