Miri deep-sea port to boost tourism to UNESCO sites

The nearly completed deep-sea port in Miri is expected to attract cruise ships, providing easier access to UNESCO World Heritage Sites in northern Sarawak, according to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Scheduled for completion by next year, the port is positioned to serve as a stopover for cruise routes traveling between Singapore and Thailand, with potential extensions toward Bali. This development aims to boost tourism to Mulu National Park and the Niah National Park Caves, generating positive economic impacts for the Miri region.

In addition to maritime expansion, the Sarawak government is focusing on strengthening air connectivity through AirBorneo to enhance regional links within ASEAN as part of its decade-long development plan.
