Miri Police seize 14 motorcycles in street-racing operation
Miri police conducted an overnight enforcement operation, known as Op Samseng Jalanan, to target illegal street racing and various road offences. The operation, carried out by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Miri District Police Headquarters, took place between 11:00 PM on 22 August and 4:00 AM the following day.
During the exercise, officers inspected 35 individuals and 31 motorcycles across several locations, including Miri Bypass, Jalan Marina Utama, Jalan Piasau, Jalan Tudan, and Jalan Grand Old Lady. Authorities seized 14 motorcycles under Section 60(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and issued 61 traffic summonses.
Identified offences included riding without a valid driving licence, structural and exhaust modifications causing excessive noise, lack of side mirrors, missing registration numbers, and the use of unauthorized fancy registration plates. Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah stated that the police will maintain a firm approach toward activities that jeopardize public order and road user safety.
