Miriam Adrielly Silva de Brito Wins Gold at Brazil's OBMEP After Skipping 15th Birthday Party
Miriam Adrielly Silva de Brito, a 15‑year‑old student from Conceição in the state of Paraíba, chose to forgo a traditional debutante celebration in favor of a notebook and an online course to prepare for the Brazilian Public Schools Mathematics Olympiad (OBMEP). With her family's support and access to the computer, she dedicated herself to studying past exams and solving extensive problem sets.
Her focused preparation paid off when she earned a gold medal at the 19th edition of the OBMEP, a competition that attracted more than 18 million participants nationwide. The achievement was confirmed by the Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (IMPA), which publishes the official list of medalists.
