Miriam Margolyes responds to controversy involving Andi Peters

Actress Miriam Margolyes has addressed the backlash following a controversial interaction with This Morning presenter Andi Peters. During a live appearance on the ITV daytime show, Margolyes questioned Peters about his heritage, suggesting he had a ‘Black daddy and a white mummy’ and using the outdated and derogatory term ‘high yalla’ to describe his complexion.

Speaking at a recent event while promoting her new memoir, Margolyes stated she did not intend to ‘embarrass or hurt’ Peters because he ‘seems very nice.’ She explained that her comments stemmed from a fascination with how people perceive themselves and how others see them, noting, ‘I wanted to know what he thought about it because that’s what interests me.’

During the original broadcast, producers reportedly expressed concern via Peters' earpiece as the conversation progressed. Peters later remarked that he is ‘ready for anything’ when filming live television.
