Miriam Silva presents Water Law proposal in Ecatepec
Deputy Miriam Silva Matareal held an informative forum in the Ciudad Cuauhtémoc neighborhood of Ecatepec to discuss her proposed Water Law for the State of Mexico. The initiative, presented on February 27, 2026, aims to establish a new legal framework that recognizes access to water as a human right.
The proposal seeks to address several critical issues, including water scarcity, leaks, contamination, and unequal distribution. Key objectives include combating water theft and illegal extraction, professionalizing municipal operating agencies, and ensuring transparency regarding tariffs, fees, and service investments.
Additionally, the legislative plan promotes rainwater harvesting, wastewater treatment and reuse, and the recognition of community water systems. It also emphasizes strengthening water planning and creating public information mechanisms to improve the administration and oversight of water services.
