Miriam Šterclová honored for 250 blood donations

Miriam Šterclová has received the Red Cross award ‘Dar krve - dar života’ (Gift of Blood - Gift of Life) after completing 250 unpaid blood and plasma donations. Her commitment to donating began in April 1983 at the Blood Center of the University Hospital Ostrava, just before her 21st birthday.

Šterclová noted that her motivation was inspired by a television broadcast honoring donors. She recalled significant moments of service, such as responding to local emergencies in 2008 following a tram collision in Vřesina and a train accident in Studénka, where she and other donors responded immediately without waiting for official appeals.

Medical staff at the Ostrava Blood Center expressed deep respect for her perseverance. Šterclová, 64, emphasized that her goal is not the recognition itself, but the ability to help others, and she continues to encourage others to donate by dispelling myths regarding the pain of the procedure.
