Mirjana Hrga discusses transition from war journalism to hospitality

Former war correspondent Mirjana Hrga has transitioned from reporting on global crisis zones, including Gaza, Syria, and Ukraine, to running Konoba Mare, a restaurant in Osor on the island of Cres.

Her restaurant, which was restored from a nearly destroyed space, has been recognized in the 2026 Gault&Millau guide with a score of 12.5/20. The establishment focuses on local Kvarner and Istria ingredients, such as Cres lamb, seafood, and Istrian truffles, set within a historical environment.

Hrga describes herself as a journalist at heart, noting that her professional identity remains unchanged despite her current role in hospitality. She also reflected on her career beginnings at HTV and her involvement in the formation of Nova TV.
