MIRORES to lead ESA project on lunar resource economics
The European Space Agency (ESA) has commissioned the Polish company MIRORES to lead the LUNAVEST international project. The initiative aims to conduct an economic feasibility study regarding the extraction of resources on the Moon.
MIRORES will head a consortium that includes the Luxembourg-based firm SPAIDER Space. The project will analyze the costs associated with the acquisition, processing, storage, and transport of lunar materials, such as water, oxygen, metals, and helium-3. A primary goal is to determine if lunar mining and manufacturing can be economically viable for future space missions and commercial enterprises.
The MIRORES team consists of scientists and engineers affiliated with the Polish Academy of Sciences, Wrocław University of Science and Technology, and the University of Warsaw. Their research will focus on creating an economic model for the future lunar industry, evaluating market demand and the necessary conditions for profitable operations.
