Mirra Andreeva captures Roland Garros women's title, defeating Maja Chwalinska

Nineteen‑year‑old Russian Mirra Andreeva won the 2026 Roland Garros women’s singles, beating Poland’s Maja Chwalinska 6‑3, 6‑2 in the final. Andreeva became the tournament’s youngest champion since Monica Seles in 1992 and the first Grand‑Slam winner born after 2005.

Chwalinska, 24, made history by reaching the final after starting the event in the qualifying rounds – the first player ever to do so. She progressed by defeating higher‑ranked opponents such as Diana Shnaider, Qinwen Zheng, Elise Mertens and Maria Sakkari, overcoming a previous struggle with depression to secure a place in the championship match.

Andreeva, coached by former champion Conchita Martínez, had already displayed dominant form on clay, dispatching Marta Kostyuk in the semifinals. Her victory adds a new chapter to women’s tennis, highlighting the emergence of a new generation of stars.
