Mirra Andreeva Wins First Grand Slam at Roland Garros

Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva, ranked eighth in the world, captured her first Grand Slam title at the French Open on June 6, defeating Poland's Maja Chwalinska 6‑3, 6‑2 in just over an hour. The 19‑year‑old became the tenth youngest player to win a major and is set to rise to the sixth spot in the WTA rankings. She lost only one set earlier in the tournament, to Spain’s Marina Bassols Ribera, and displayed dominant clay‑court play throughout. Coach and former world‑number‑two Conchita Martínez praised the victory, saying, “When she does what I tell her she has no limits,” while urging humility and continued work. Martínez highlighted Andreeva’s potential to challenge top players and emphasized that the Grand Slam win will boost her confidence for future events.
