Mirra Andreeva wins French Open, youngest Roland Garros champion since 1992

Russia’s 19‑year‑old Mirra Andreeva captured the French Open women’s singles title, defeating Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska 6‑3, 6‑2. The victory makes her the youngest Roland Garros champion since Monica Seles in 1992. In her acceptance speech Andreeva said, “I want to thank myself,” adding gratitude to tournament organisers, her coach Conchita Martínez and her psychologist Alexis Castorri, who helped her manage on‑court emotions. The win follows a year in which Andreeva struggled with outbursts, including a racket smash and swearing incident at Indian Wells, but she displayed composure throughout the Paris final despite blustery conditions.

Andreeva’s triumph marks a milestone for Russian tennis and follows a partnership with former Wimbledon champion Martínez that began in 2024. The pair’s close bond was evident as Martínez was the first person Andreeva embraced after the victory.
