Italy expands accessibility in tourism and cultural heritage

Various Italian regions and institutions are launching initiatives to improve accessibility in tourism and culture. In Valle d'Aosta, the CASPITA project is conducting inclusive mountain excursions using joëlettes—all-terrain wheelchairs—to allow people with motor disabilities to participate in hiking alongside others.

In Alghero, the MŪSA Archaeological Museum has reopened following renovations funded by the PNRR to remove architectural barriers and implement Universal Design principles. Similarly, in Pasiano di Pordenone, the MIRS museum is launching the ‘Echi di cura’ project to design museum visits specifically tailored for people living with dementia.

In the Marche region, the regional government and the Alpine Guides College have partnered to offer free outdoor activities, including hiking and climbing, to promote year-round tourism and local village discovery.
