Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Calls for Dialogue Over Rawalakot Unrest

Mirwaiz‑e‑Kashmir Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq expressed deep concern over recent violence in Rawalakot, a town in Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir, and the broader unrest along the Line of Control. He urged a prompt, impartial and transparent investigation into the reported civilian and police deaths, and called for dialogue, constitutional fairness and respect for the rights and dignity of all people in the region.

The cleric appealed to the Government of Pakistan and the administration in PoK to engage sincerely with the Joint Awami Action Committee and other stakeholders, emphasizing that lasting peace can only be achieved through inclusive dialogue. He also highlighted the shared historical, cultural and familial ties of Kashmiris on both sides of the LoC, and urged protection of the voting rights and constitutional status of Kashmiri refugees living in Pakistan. Farooq concluded with prayers for peace, reconciliation and unity among all communities of Jammu and Kashmir.
