Mirzapur: The Movie faces fan backlash amid theatrical expansion

The upcoming theatrical release of ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ has encountered mixed reactions from its fanbase. Some viewers have expressed concerns on social media, labeling the big-screen spin-off as a ‘cynical franchise stretch’ and questioning whether the transition from a long-form streaming series to a feature film will compromise the narrative depth of the original crime saga.

Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment have scheduled the film for release on September 4, 2026. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, the project aims to expand the franchise beyond Prime Video.

In contrast to the fan backlash, actress Shweta Tripathi has expressed enthusiasm for the cinematic evolution. She noted that the film format offers a more immersive way to explore emotions and highlighted that music will play a more integral role in the storytelling compared to the original series.
