MISC names first of three LNG carriers for QatarEnergy

MISC has named Th’ailib, the first of three new 174,000-cubic-metre liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea. The vessel was secured under long-term charter agreements with QatarEnergy as part of the company’s LNG fleet expansion programme.

Th’ailib is scheduled to enter a 15-year charter with QatarEnergy starting in 2026. Two additional vessels are expected to follow as part of the second phase of the expansion programme. This brings MISC’s total involvement across two phases of the program to 15 vessels.

The new carrier features dual-fuel engines, a reliquefaction system, an air lubrication system, and high-performance anti-fouling hull coating designed to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions intensity. The naming ceremony was attended by representatives from QatarEnergy, MISC, Samsung Heavy Industries, and DNV.
