Misiones and Brazil coordinate Uruguay River flood prevention

Authorities from Misiones, Argentina, and representatives from the Foz do Chapecó dam in Brazil held a binational meeting to coordinate actions regarding potential rises in the Uruguay River. The meeting was prompted by forecasts of rainfall exceeding usual records and the subsequent risk of new river swells.

During the discussions, technical explanations were provided regarding the dam's operation and its flow regulation system. While the Foz do Chapecó facility lacks the capacity to store massive volumes of water, officials reached an agreement to implement more gradual water discharges. The proposed scheme aims to release water progressively, in increments of approximately 1,000 to 1,500 cubic meters per second, to better manage river levels and improve communication between the two nations.
