Misiones and Brazil promote bio-integration corridor
Authorities from Misiones, Argentina, and southern Brazil are advancing a bio-integration corridor designed to link biodiversity conservation with economic and productive development. The initiative, presented in Posadas, aims to connect shared ecosystems, specifically portions of the Atlantic Forest, while fostering cooperation in infrastructure, trade, culture, and education.
The project focuses on strengthening ties between Misiones and the westernmost region of Santa Catarina, with potential future coordination involving the Brazilian states of Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul. Key participants included representatives from the Misiones Institute of Biodiversity (IMiBio), the Caminhos da Fronteira Integrated Tourism Region, and the Association of Municipalities of the Far West of Santa Catarina (AMEOSC).
Beyond environmental protection, the corridor seeks to improve border connectivity, facilitate cross-border procedures, and promote regional tourism and agricultural production. Officials emphasized that the initiative leverages the historical economic and cultural exchanges between the border communities to create a more integrated regional agenda.
