Misiones celebrates Provincial Day of the Ferias Francas

August 26 marks the Provincial Day of the Ferias Francas in Misiones, Argentina, commemorating the anniversary of the first such market established in Oberá in 1995. Originally started by seven producers, the network has grown to over 70 sales points across the province, facilitating the direct sale of fruits, vegetables, meats, and dairy from producers to consumers.

Malena Ruiz Díaz, president of the Asociación de Ferias Francas de Misiones, noted that the sector is currently facing challenges due to the El Niño phenomenon. Recent intense winds in the central region have damaged structures and roofs on various farms, leaving crops exposed to rain. These weather events threaten to reduce yields and impact the investments and labor of local farming families.
