Misiones conservation efforts focus on wildlife monitoring and birdwatching

In Misiones, Argentina, the Reserva Paraíso is launching a $7.5 million crowdfunding campaign to protect 440 hectares of native forest. Owner Omar Auada aims to use the funds to purchase advanced technological equipment, including night-vision security cameras, trap cameras, and Starlink internet, to monitor wildlife and deter illegal hunting. The initiative also includes an audiovisual project designed to broadcast live footage of forest life through a reality-style format.

Complementing regional conservation efforts, the Misiones Ministry of Tourism is promoting the 'Ruta de las Aves de Misiones' (Bird Route of Misiones). This initiative connects various protected areas, such as Iguazú National Park, Urugua-í Provincial Park, and the Yabotí Biosphere Reserve, to encourage low-impact nature tourism. The route highlights the province's biodiversity, offering opportunities to observe species like the Harpy Eagle and the Yacutinga across diverse ecosystems ranging from northern jungles to southern grasslands.
