Misiones increases carbon credit share for native forest owners

The Government of Misiones has modified the distribution mechanism for economic benefits derived from the future sale of carbon credits. Under the Jurisdictional REDD+ (JNR) Program, which adheres to international Verra standards, the province has increased the share allocated directly to native forest owners from 30% to 45%.

Resources will be managed through a trust consisting of three specific accounts. The funds will be distributed as non-reimbursable contributions. While the primary increase benefits forest owners, the remaining funds are designated for environmental projects and provincial conservation policies.

One account (20% of funds) is dedicated to providing non-reimbursable contributions to projects submitted by entrepreneurs, SMEs, NGOs, municipalities, indigenous peoples, and universities. These projects must focus on environmental conservation, the adoption of renewable energies, and the use of sustainable materials.
