Misiones medical strike causes road closures in Paraguay
Medical professionals in the Misiones department of Paraguay conducted intermittent road closures on Wednesday as part of a national strike. The protest, organized by the National Medical Union (Sinamed), aimed to highlight professional demands and involves approximately 11,000 public health professionals.
Protesters gathered at the Santa María crossing on route PY01, a strategic connection point for the region. The demonstrations included support from elderly representatives and medical students from the National University of Misiones (Unamis). The closures, which lasted from 07:00 until at least 13:00, involved total blockades at times and partial closures that reopened roughly every thirty minutes.
The action disrupted the movement of 60 National Police officers traveling to the Itapúa Department to provide security for the WRC Rally Paraguay. After a blockade lasting approximately thirty minutes, the officers were able to continue their journey.
